He added that, for the first time, a special resolution of the UN General Assembly was adopted at the Uzbekistan’s initiative on ensuring peace, stability and sustainable development in the Central Asian region in June of this year, which received wide international support.

The parties also focused on combining the efforts of the world community to mitigate the consequences of the Aral Sea disaster, including through the implementation of socio-economic and humanitarian programs and projects in the Aral Sea region.

A big practical step in this direction will be the realization of Uzbekistan’s initiative to set up a special Trust Fund under the auspices of the UN. On November 27 of this year, the first high level event of this fund will be held at the UN headquarters in New York.

The sides also considered issues of comprehensive assistance to a political settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, which is a key factor in ensuring peace and stability in the whole region and far beyond.

UN Deputy Secretary-General Michael Møller thanked Shavkat Miriyoyev for the reception, and also conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes of the Secretary General António Guterres.

He commended the reforms and transformations being undertaken in Uzbekistan, aimed at ensuring human interests, rights and freedoms.

In addition, Michael Möller expressed the full support of the UN for Uzbekistan efforts to strengthen trust, good neighborly relations and constructive partnership in Central Asia, as well as to promote sustainable development in the region.

The UN confirmed readiness to deepen the multi-faceted cooperation with Uzbekistan, including to implement the outcomes of the first Asian Forum on Human Rights held in Uzbekistan on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
