President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree Thursday to introduce mandatory chess classes in 150 schools as a test.
As stated in the decree, the move is aimed at “popularizing chess as a tool to aid the intellectual process and cognitive process in a person.”
The public education ministry and the Chess Federation were instructed to prepare chess programs for schools by August 20, with step by step, chess programs to cover all schools.
The decree also provides for the hand-over of the National Specialized Children Chess School to the Federation of Chess.
