President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the commander of the United States Central Command General Joseph Leonard Votel in Tashkent Saturday, the Presidential press service said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored the dynamically developing strategic partnership ties and multifaceted Uzbekistan-U.S. cooperation in political, trade and economic, investment, technological, cultural, humanitarian and other fields.

The parties focused on cooperation in the field of security, military and military-technical cooperation and discussed the ways to counter contemporary challenges and threats to ensure stability in the region, as well as a peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan.

Joseph L.Votel reportedly expressed his gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome and conveyed sincere greetings of the U.S. President Donald Trump.

He emphasized that the U.S. highly commends and supports the outcomes of the Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan, held at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan in March 2018.

The parties agreed that peace and stability in Afghanistan open wide opportunities for building up regional trade and economic cooperation, implementing large infrastructure projects in the interests of Afghanistan and all the states of the region, and expressed their confidence that the upcoming official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the United States will elevate the Uzbek-American partnership ties to a new level.
