After the official welcoming ceremony of the President of Turkmenistan which take place in Kuksaroy residence, the heads of state held a tête-à-tête meeting.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev greeted Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the state visit to our country.
The two leaders discussed the ways to strengthen strategic partnership ties, advance cooperation in political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other areas, and also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Joint Statement of the Heads of State, a number of accords aimed at further development of bilateral ties in various fields will be signed following the talks.
The presidents continued the talks with the participation of the official delegations of the two countries, which focused on the ways to further develop bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
“We are pleased with the current two-way trade figures. In Q1 of this year, the bilateral trade turnover increased by 55 percent. Our agreements began to give results. Now it is important to preserve and increase this trend”, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
“Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are peace-loving countries, good neighbors. Our countries support each other both in bilateral format and at the international level. Today's talks have once again confirmed this”, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
It was noted that Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan complement each other, and it is necessary to tap the potential in terms of the bilateral trade and expand the range of traded goods. The sides also discussed the ways to create favorable conditions for the manufacturers of the two countries, strengthening the cooperation of industrial enterprises, and developing interregional ties. The sides agreed to elevate the trade volume up to US$ 500 million by 2020.
To achieve these goals, it is necessary to make maximum use of the potential of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation.
Fruitful meetings at various levels have given new momentum to ties between the two countries. The National Industrial Exhibition of Uzbekistan was successfully held in Ashgabat in March. These days Tashkent is hosting the National Exhibition of Turkmenistan and the bilateral business forum.
The sides agreed to boost cooperation in the field of transport and transit, thereby increasing the volume of mutual trade and increasing the competitiveness of our countries in this direction.
An agreement on joint production of agricultural machineries, cars and electrical engineering, supply of oil and oil products, the expansion of trade between the regions, services and other issues was reached, the Uzbek President’s press service reported.
