Tashkent's Bainalminal (transl. International) street will be renamed to Seoul street. It will be reconstructed in the Korean style, the Tashkent deputy mayor for investment, innovations and tourism development Alisher Tilyaev said.
"South Korean experts will cooperate with local architectural service on the design of Seoul Street on the Beshagach to Oktepa crossroad section, with a promenade to be created along the Oktepa canal," he added.
The design is being developed by the Uzbek experts and to be approved by South Korean counterparts. "We have to confirm that this is actually a Korean design, so that the gates, gazebos and other objects are in Korean style. If you make a mistake in a sign, letter, then it will not be Korean, but a different style," said Kim Dai Song, an official of the Seoul city hall.
Kim Dai Song arrived in Uzbekistan at the invitation of Tashkent mayor's office. He was part of the team that designed eight Seoul parks in Mongolia, Egypt, Iran, France, Germany, Uzbekistan and other countries.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during his state visit to the Republic of Korea in November, proposed to name one of the streets of Tashkent to Seoul street as a sign of friendship between the peoples of the two countries. In the fall of 2014, Seoul Park was opened in the capital of Uzbekistan.
