The Code on Administrative Liability could be supplemented with a Visiting Brothels article criminalizing paying for sex. The draft amendments were published by the Ministry of Justice for public consultation.
The proposed article 190-1 reads: "Men visiting brothels for the purpose of satisfying the sexual need shall pay a fine of 1 minimum wage (MW= 184,000 UZS)".
The prostitution is illegal in Uzbekistan and is punishable with 1 to 3 MW fine, and for a repeated offense within a year after the last offense - from 3 to 5 MW fine.
The CAL is also planned to be supplemented with Article 39-1, according to which, in addition to a fine, an administrative court can assign "mandatory medical examination" for the presence of venereal diseases and, if required, assigning in-patient treatment to those who committed offenses under the articles Prostitution and Visiting Brothels.
