A court has sentenced a man to 19 years in prison for fatally stabbing well-known wrestler Nizomiddin Chutboyev at a national wrestling tournament in Denov district, according to the verdict.
The Kumkurgan District Criminal Court found Doston Jabborov, 29, guilty under clauses “f” and “g” of part 2 of Article 97 (Premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code. He will serve his sentence in general-regime penal colonies.
According to the verdict, Jabborov attended the tournament in the Yangiariq neighborhood on May 9, 2026, where his younger brother Bustonbek lost a bout to Chutboyev’s son, Ayubkhon Khurramov. After leaving the venue, Jabborov was told by a taxi driver that his father, Asl Khudoykulov, and Chutboyev had argued at the ring. He went back, took a kitchen knife from a nearby grocery store and stabbed Chutboyev four times in front of his children, the verdict said. The wrestler died in hospital.
Jabborov pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, saying he did not know how many times he had stabbed the wrestler and that it was done in anger. Khurramov told the court he was in severe distress after seeing his father stabbed and asked for a life sentence.
The verdict said Jabborov had twice been convicted before of hooliganism and intentional infliction of serious bodily harm charges. It was reported earlier that a wrestling tournament in Denov had ended in the killing of a well-known wrestler.
