Former chief of the Presidential Administration Zaynilobiddin Nizomiddinov has been appointed acting governor of Sirdaryo province.

Nizomiddinov had served as the mayor of Bekabad district in Tashkent province since spring 2025.

He replaces Erkinjon Turdimov, who was appointed on Oct. 9 as first deputy prime minister and minister of education and science.

Nizomiddinov, 52, graduated from Tashkent State University of Economics in 1996. He began his career that year at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, was an adviser to the president and chief of the executive staff in 2016-2018, and headed the Presidential Administration from 2018 to 2022.

He was dismissed from that post in July 2022, days after the unrest in Nukus, Karakalpakstan. No official reason was given, but the dismissal was widely seen as a consequence of the events there. He was later elected first deputy chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan.
