A court in Chirchik, Tashkent province, has sentenced a police team chief and a community policeman to six years in prison each for taking a bribe not to open a criminal case over a beating, Daryo reported after reviewing court documents.
Chirchik city court found the two officers, identified as N.A. and D.R., guilty under Article 210, Part 2, clauses “c” and “g” (Bribery) of the Criminal Code and other relevant articles. They were also barred from working in internal affairs bodies for three years. Both denied guilt, but the court cited witness testimony, recordings of phone calls and other evidence.
According to the documents, a 28-year-old man was beaten by a group of people in Chirchik on Feb. 17, 2026. The policeman assigned to review the incident told the victim the attackers could not even face administrative liability, the victim testified.
“For what they did, let them at least serve five days in jail. I have three children. What would have happened if I had died then?” the victim said in court.
The policeman then offered to recover his treatment costs and, in agreement with the team chief, demanded $3,000 from those involved in the beating in exchange for the victim withdrawing his complaint, the court document said. On Feb. 18, one of them borrowed money and gave the division head $2,700. The court found that $1,700 of it was divided among the officials.
The victim wrote on Feb. 19 that he had no claims, and on Feb. 28 a decision was made not to open a criminal case. A case was opened on March 5, and the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs began an inquiry.
On April 20, the victim appealed to the State Security Service’s Tashkent province branch. Three days later, during an operational measure, the policeman handed him $300.
It was previously reported that a community officer in Chirchik had been detained for taking a bribe from a boss of a criminal group.
