Work has begun on a Friendship Garden project involving Uzbekistan in Afghanistan's northwestern Faryab province, the Ministry of Agriculture and its Agroindustrial Development Agency announced on July 28. The launch took place during a visit by an Uzbek government delegation to Afghanistan.
The orchard is being established on a 60-hectare plot in the Khan Charbagh district. Plans call for planting 40,000 fruit saplings, deploying a drip irrigation system, and building an 8,000-cubic-meter reservoir to ensure an uninterrupted water supply for irrigation.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Sardor Koyshibaev, chief specialist at the Agroindustrial Development Agency, along with officials from Faryab province and Khan Charbagh district.
The agency said the project will help implement modern horticultural technologies, boost fruit production, and strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
It was previously reported that Tashkent is considering purchasing agricultural produce from Afghanistan to help stabilize prices in the capital's markets.
