The death toll has risen in the July 16 crash at the intersection of Dormon Yuli and Gazalkent streets in Tashkent, involving an Onix sedan and three patrol motorcycles operated by traffic police (YHXX) officers. The driver of the Onix died in hospital on July 27.
One of the motorcyclists had died at the scene on the day of the crash. Four other people — two motorcyclists, a traffic officer who had been on duty at the intersection, and the driver of the Onix that collided with the motorcycles — were hospitalized.
The condition of the remaining three has since improved, and they have been transferred to general wards.
The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. on July 16, when three traffic patrol officers riding motorcycles along Dormon Yuli street collided with an Onix-model vehicle that had entered the intersection from Gazalkent street.
Speculation had circulated on social media suggesting the crash occurred during a motorcade escort. The Interior Ministry denied this, asking the public not to spread unverified information.
However, a video circulating on social media shows law enforcement officers directing traffic and pedestrian movement at the intersection at the time. After a black van and another black vehicle passed through at high speed, the road was reopened to traffic. The light turned green and cars began moving, but the motorcade had not yet fully cleared the intersection.
Against the backdrop of this incident, Alisher Usmonov, head of the Presidential Security Service, was sacked.
