A 12-year-old schoolboy has tragically lost his life in a traffic accident, triggering a criminal investigation. Video footage obtained by Kun.uz reveals a Cobalt driving on the wrong side of the road before striking the child, who was crossing the pedestrian walkway on a bicycle.
Elnur Abraev, the chief of the press service for Surxondaryo Province Police Department's Traffic Safety Management reported that the incident occurred in the city of Denov on July 26, 2026, at approximately 8:30 PM.
A driver born in 1992, operating a Cobalt owned by his father, was traveling down Sharof Rashidov Street when he struck the boy, 12. The child was crossing a controlled pedestrian crossing on a green light, while the driver was traveling against the flow of traffic in the oncoming lane.
The victim was a 7th-grade student at School No. 74 in the district. He was rushed to the district medical association with severe injuries but passed away despite the medical assistance provided.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 266, Part 2 of the Criminal Code. A preliminary investigation is currently underway.
