A criminal case has been launched in the Navoiy province against an investigator who accepted a $1,000 bribe to return a confiscated iPhone, the State Security Service (DXX) reported.
According to DXX, on July 1, 2026, law enforcement authorities seized an iPhone 17 Pro Max belonging to a citizen born in 2003, under suspicion that the device’s storage contained prohibited religious materials.
A senior investigator from the investigative team of the Qiziltepa District Police Department was subsequently caught red-handed alongside two accomplices while receiving $1,000 in exchange for handing back the phone.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and preliminary investigative proceedings are currently underway.
This follows an incident in early June in Namangan, where another investigator and a defense attorney were detained for accepting a $40,000 bribe.
