An attempt to illegally smuggle a large quantity of gold bullion out of the country has been thwarted, the State Security Service reported.
Investigations revealed that a 46-year-old individual was planning to board a flight from Tashkent to Dubai. During a routine check of his luggage, security officers discovered 1 kilogram and 923 grams of gold bullion concealed inside his suitcase.
Further inquiries established that a second suspect, 34, was also involved in the illicit operation.
A pre-investigation inquiry has been launched into the incident.
This follows a recent case in Fergana, where law enforcement officials confiscated another batch of gold that was being prepared for illegal export.
