The deputy mayor of Kogan district in Bukhara province has been detained on suspicion of bribery, the State Security Service (DXX) said.
Reportedly, a local farmer approached the official for assistance in restoring water supply to crops in the "Kum Sulton" area. The irrigation flow had been cut off as it passed through the Kogan district.
The deputy mayor allegedly promised to resolve the issue permanently, demanding $15,000 from the farmer in exchange for his intervention. He was caught red-handed by SSS and prosecutor’s office agents while accepting $12,000 of the requested sum.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 210, Part 2, clauses "b" and "c" of the Criminal Code (Large-scale bribery through extortion). The official is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
