Financial penalties are set to be deployed for environmental violations, the Huquqiy Axborot (Legal Information) channel said. Under amendments and addenda made to certain legislative acts, financial sanctions will be imposed for violations in the areas of ecology, environmental protection, and the use of natural resources.
Specifically, legal entities that violate the established procedures for dredging riverbeds and reinforcing riverbanks will face fines equivalent to three times the amount of environmental damage caused.
For water pollution, as well as for breaching the conditions governing the discharge of wastewater into water facilities, legal entities will be subject to fines amounting to ten times the compensation otherwise payable for environmental contamination.
Legal entities that fail to take legally mandated measures to protect and preserve trees on land they own or are responsible for will face fines equal to five times the environmental damage caused.
The law will take effect three months after the date of its official publication.
