A man in Tashkent has been arrested after hiring a hitman for $10,000 to murder his wife, whom he had married in a religious ceremony.

According to a report from the Tashkent Police Department, the man paid his acquaintance $2,000 upfront to carry out the killing. He provided the hired killer with detailed information about the woman - including her home address, apartment number, her car, who she lived with, and her daily comings and goings.

Following this, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division conducted a special undercover operation, staging the woman's death. The man hired to carry out the murder had already been placed under the surveillance of law enforcement based on intelligence gathered earlier, and subsequently began cooperating with authorities.

During the undercover operation carried out on April 20th, the hired killer met with the client and informed him that his wife had been killed. Upon hearing the news, the man handed over 6.5 million soums along with a Tracker vehicle registered in the victim's name — at which point he was apprehended with physical evidence in hand.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 97 of the Criminal Code. The suspect has been remanded in custody, with an investigation ongoing.
