Two men in the Namangan region are suspected of attempting to sell counterfeit US dollars, the State Security Service (DXX) said.

The suspects were apprehended during a sting operation in Chust district while attempting to sell $10,000 in fake bills to an undercover buyer for an agreed price of $7,500. Authorities stated that the counterfeit currency had been smuggled into the country from abroad.

The operation was a coordinated effort between the DXX, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor’s Office, and the Customs Committee.

The detainees have been identified as a 42-year-old resident of Yangi-Namangan district and a 46-year-old resident of Chust district, the latter of whom has a prior criminal record. A criminal case has been launched, and a full investigation is currently underway.
