A senior community police officer in Tashkent has been arrested for soliciting a $10,000 bribe in exchange for initiating a criminal case against another individual, the State Security Service (DXX) reported.
In a joint sting operation conducted by the DXX’s Tashkent city branch and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office, a senior community policeman of the Uchtepa District Police Department was caught red-handed. The officer, 31, was apprehended while accepting $10,000 in cash.
Investigation revealed that the officer had promised a man that he would initiate criminal proceedings against a third party. This third party, 35, had allegedly defrauded the man’s company of $450,000 in December 2025 by forging documents related to IT services. The officer demanded $10,000 to ensure the fraudster was held accountable.
However, a preliminary inquiry showed that the police had already formally declined to open a criminal case regarding the alleged IT service fraud back in February 2025.
A criminal case has now been launched against the officer, and an investigation is currently underway.
