Law enforcement authorities have dismantled a transnational criminal network and intercepted a large-scale attempt to smuggle narcotics into Uzbekistan through neighboring countries, the Internal Ministry reported.

A 62-year-old man with prior convictions was arrested while loading a bag onto his vehicle - one that had been buried in a field in the Shahrisabz district and found to contain 45 kilograms and 768 grams of hashish.

The suspect was identified as one of the principal organizers of the transnational criminal group operating within Uzbekistan. Since 2008, he had been running an international criminal network engaged in the systematic smuggling and distribution of narcotics into Uzbekistan via neighboring countries.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 5 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has called on citizens with information about suspects or illegal activity to submit tips through the Telegram bot @stopnarko_bot.

In a separate earlier incident, 24 kilograms of smuggled hashish were seized in Fergana.
