Uzbekistan must accelerate its economic growth and boost industrial efficiency, as current results have yet to match the country's true potential. president Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered this message during a meeting on April 24.

"When has the Fergana province ever achieved a 10% growth in Gross Provincial Product? Why am I setting such ambitious goals? I have been preparing for this for ten years," the president said while speaking with the provincial governor, Khayrulla Bozorov. "Now, the people must feel the impact. If we persevere through this challenging period and these difficult years, then, God willing, new opportunities will open up for us."

"We need to teach people how to earn a living—across every sector. This is my primary directive," the president stressed.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev added that the nation's progress depends first and foremost on its own internal efforts.

"I say it every time: nobody from the outside is going to do the work for Uzbekistan. The people in this room, the entire presidential team, must roll up their sleeves and get to work. Yes, the figures we are announcing today are significant, but the expectations of our people are growing too. Every day, they strive for a better life—living in a nice home, driving a good car, and sending their children to the world’s best universities," he noted.

The president placed special emphasis on the vital role stability plays in national progress.

“What is the fundamental requirement? Peace, above all else. Where there is peace, there is a future. Productivity rises, and people gain a genuine stake in the outcome. There is no room for excuses anymore. The people have started to believe; they finally realize that change is actually possible,” he remarked.

The head of state noted that further improvements in socio-economic indicators hinge entirely on industrial efficiency.

“We can improve our results; we can raise wages, pensions, and scholarships—but these outcomes depend on our own efforts. In the coming quarter, industry leaders will report directly to the president. It will be a rigorous review. Why? Because currently, our industries are operating at only 50% of their potential. If we dig deeper and study the issues more closely, we can achieve far greater results and reach our ultimate goals,” Mirziyoyev stated.

In his closing remarks, he called for unity and intensified efforts during this challenging era.

“We must guide our beloved country and our great people through these trying times safely. This demands immense, focused hard work—work that is only possible in a peaceful environment. May there be peace in our land. Let us remain ready to serve the people with devotion, carry out every directive on time, and protect the peace we have,” the president said.

However, the president warned that economic growth would not provide a tangible benefit to citizens or businesses if inflation continues to accelerate. He ordered that price increases be kept within a 6.5% limit by boosting the supply of local products, expanding meat imports, and resolving logistical bottlenecks.
