President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who arrived in Kokand on Monday, took a maiden trip to Margilan aboard the new EP3D electric train via the Fergana Valley’s circular railway.

The 324-kilometer line, first announced in 2020, links the major hubs of Margilan, Kokand, Namangan, and Andijan. The project aims to revolutionize transport links in the densely populated Fergana Valley by providing a convenient, safe, and affordable alternative to the road.

Assembled at the Tashkent Passenger Railway Car Construction and Repair Plant using Russian components, the six-car train can carry 586 passengers at speeds of up to 120 km/h. Similar models are already in operation on suburban routes around the capital.

Travelers will find the train significantly more economical than taxis or buses, with tickets priced at just 15,000 soums. The service is expected to accommodate up to 1,500 passengers daily, or roughly 600,000 per year.

During the journey, the president met with local community leaders to discuss the province's ongoing transformation. He noted that the circular railway is poised to elevate the Fergana Valley’s tourism potential to new heights. Mirziyoyev also emphasized the need to develop service hubs, hotels, and restaurants near the stations to create new income opportunities for local residents.
