The State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan has issued a clarification regarding the potential introduction of a zero-percent Value Added Tax (VAT) rate for the food service industry.
The Committee stated that while various support measures—including international best practices—have indeed been discussed during meetings with industry representatives, these were exploratory in nature. Specifically, officials examined models from countries that offer preferential VAT regimes to restaurants and catering businesses.
"Discussions were limited strictly to studying foreign experience and potential support frameworks for the sector. At this stage, no final decision has been made regarding a zero-percent VAT rate for the food service industry," the Tax Committee emphasized.
Business owners have been invited to submit their own proposals for supporting the industry. Once these suggestions are analyzed, the Committee plans to work alongside entrepreneurs to develop "well-balanced and viable solutions" that serve the interests of both the state and the private sector.
