Authorities in Pskent district of Tashkent province have uncovered a major theft involving 14.8 kilometers of water pipes. According to Uzbekistan’s Anti-Corruption Agency, the embezzlement occurred during the transfer of the Saganak water facility to the local branch of the provinceal water utility.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Agency, the compliance service of Uzsuvta’minot (the national water supply company), and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office.

The probe revealed that the chief of the Pskent district water utility, identified as B.K., orchestrated the scheme in collusion with executives from a private firm, "A.," and several other accomplices.

Out of a total asset value of 3.931 billion soums, the suspects allegedly misappropriated pipes worth 3.078 billion soums (approximately $240,000) by illegally excavating and carting them away.

A criminal case has been launched against the branch manager and his co-conspirators under Article 167, Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code (embezzlement or larceny by misappropriation on a particularly large scale). The investigation is ongoing.
