Due to the threat of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) spreading among livestock, Uzbekistan has declared a month of "Sanitary and Epidemiological Hygiene in Animal Husbandry" from April 18 to May 18. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Council of Farmers.

it was recently reported on an FMD outbreak in two Chinese provinces and urgent livestock vaccinations in Kazakhstan, particularly along the border. In late 2025, mass culling of livestock began in Russia. While authorities cited pasteurellosis and rabies, experts believe the real cause is FMD.

Citing the World Organisation for Animal Health, the Ministry of Agriculture noted that new SAT (South African Territories) serotypes of the FMD virus were recorded in 48 countries between 2025 and 2026. These strains, typically found in Africa, are now spreading to other regions.

"Current vaccines do not provide full protection against this specific strain. Therefore, the responsibility and active participation of every farmer and livestock breeder are vital to preventing the spread of the disease," the Ministry stated.
