Uzbekistan plans to expand its training programs for Armed Forces reserve and standby officers, according to a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday.

Currently, reserve and standby officers are trained in 42 specialties across military training centers and departments at four civilian and two higher military educational institutions. A proposal was made to establish five additional military training centers at Urgench State University, Termez State University, Andijan State University, the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service, and the Andijan State Medical Institute.

For the first time, the Military Medical Institute will offer fee-based military training for clinical residency and master’s students. Similar opportunities are planned for students at private universities.

Furthermore, training for standby officers will be established in modern, highly specialized fields currently in high demand, such as artificial intelligence, drones, and robotics. New curricula and programs for military training units will be developed based on the best practices of leading international militaries.

The meeting also addressed social protections for military personnel. Proposals include doubling the monthly longevity bonus for Ministry of Defense officers and increasing the base pay for contract-based privates and sergeants by 10%. These increases were slated to take effect on April 1.

President Mirziyoyev supported these initiatives, emphasizing that their implementation will boost the prestige of military service and strengthen social safeguards for personnel and their families.
