Uzbekistan’s automotive industry recorded the sale of 91,088 vehicles in the first quarter of 2026, according to Uzavtosanoat JSC. This represents a significant 21% increase—totaling 15,735 additional units—compared to the same period last year.
The year-on-year dynamics highlight a remarkable surge for BYD Uzbekistan, which nearly doubled its performance. After selling 4,045 vehicles in Q1 of last year, the company saw a 93% spike, reaching 7,799 units this year. Other players also posted strong gains: ADM Jizzakh sales climbed 26% (from 8,623 to 10,886 units), while Khorezm Auto saw a 24% rise (from 21,275 to 26,348 units).
Market leader UzAuto Motors maintained steady growth at 12%, with sales increasing from 40,985 to 45,881 vehicles. However, a closer look at brand distribution reveals a shift in market share. For the first time, Chevrolet’s dominance dipped below the 80% mark; its market share slid from 82.6% in last year's first quarter to 79.3% today.
In terms of specific models, the perennial favorite Chevrolet Cobalt saw a 17% decline, falling just short of the 24,000-unit mark. Conversely, demand for the Damas, Tracker, and Onix surged; Damas sales rose 22% (18,800 units), Tracker jumped 55% (11,200 units), and Onix witnessed a staggering 156% explosion in demand (10,400 units).
Beyond the Chevrolet stable, the Kia Sonet remains the top non-Chevrolet model with nearly 5,600 units sold—a 43% year-on-year increase. The BYD Song Plus Champion DMI followed suit, nearly doubling its sales with a 97% increase (2,800 units). However, the standout performer in terms of pure momentum was the BYD Yuan Up: demand for this model skyrocketed 5.2-fold, leaping from roughly 400 units last year to 2,100 units in the first quarter of 2026.
