From January to March, Uzbekistan recorded 1,102 road traffic accidents, nearly a third of which (31.4%) proved fatal, claiming 346 lives. These figures were disclosed during a press conference on April 11 by the Deputy Interior Minister/Investigative Department Chief Ramazon Ashrapov.

The Deputy Minister did not specify the number of injuries sustained during this period.

By way of comparison, 1,293 accidents were officially registered during the first quarter of last year. This represents a decrease of 191 incidents, or approximately 15%.

The Deputy Minister acknowledged that road safety remains "one of the most painful issues" facing the country.

The data reveals that a third of all accidents—32.9%—were caused by speeding. Disregarding traffic signals accounted for 22.4% of crashes, while 13.6% resulted from drivers failing to yield to pedestrians. Additionally, 4.2% of accidents were attributed to drivers falling asleep at the wheel.

As previously reported, Uzbekistan recorded 9,226 traffic accidents throughout 2025, resulting in 2,188 deaths and 8,901 injuries—a year-on-year decrease of less than 1%.
