More than half of Uzbekistan’s workforce has experienced a workplace crush, according to a recent survey conducted by the hh.uz recruitment platform.

The study, which surveyed 900 employers and job seekers, found that 54% of respondents have harbored romantic feelings for a colleague at least once. Of those, 34% reported mutual attraction, 13% kept their feelings a secret, and 7% experienced unrequited love. Conversely, 46% of those polled stated they had never encountered such a situation.

The findings suggest that workplace connections often evolve into something more; 29% of participants confirmed that office romances can lead to serious commitments, with 17% having dated a colleague and 12% currently married to one. An additional 19% noted a lingering mutual attraction, while 7% expressed a desire for their workplace feelings to develop further.

Opinions on professional boundaries remain varied. While 42% of respondents view workplace romances as acceptable provided they do not interfere with productivity, 25% are strictly against them, and 20% believe it depends entirely on the circumstances. For those who did enter relationships, 15% are still together, and 18% managed to maintain a positive rapport after breaking up. However, 7% of these office romances ended in conflict.

Social circles within the office also reflect these trends: nearly half of those surveyed (49%) know of colleagues who found love at work and remain together. Regarding the balance between professional and private life, 44% believe that success lies in a clear separation of roles, while 27% feel it depends on the individuals involved. Meanwhile, 19% consider the juggle to be a significant challenge.
