The transfer of 190 hectares of land in the Ulugbek settlement of Tashkent’s Mirzo-Ulugbek district is tied to the creation of a new national dendrological park, the capital’s city administration press service said.

According to a decision issued by Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov on April 10, the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan formally submitted a letter on April 1 voluntarily relinquishing the 190-hectare plot and returning it to the state land reserve.

One of these parks is slated for a 250-hectare site that includes land belonging to the Academy’s Institute of Nuclear Physics and surrounding areas; this project carries an estimated value of 335 billion soums. The second park, with a budget of 104 billion soums, will span 83 hectares across the Tashkent and Kibray districts, positioned directly opposite the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University).

The "Clean Air" project implementation program for Tashkent mandates that the city administration (khokimiyat) reclassify relevant land plots as needed, returning them to the district reserve before granting permanent usage rights to the Committee for Ecology.

Funding for these initiatives is sourced from the State Trust Fund, specifically designated for addressing nationwide environmental challenges.

Currently, Tashkent boasts approximately 893 hectares of public parkland. However, as noted by Sherzod Kudbiev, head of the Urbanization Committee, this translates to only about 2 square meters of green space per resident—far below the recommended standard of 17–19 square meters. To bridge this gap, the city plans to establish nine new parks spanning a total of 140 hectares.
