The State Security Service of Uzbekistan (DXX) has uncovered a major cache of smuggled pharmaceuticals valued at 1 billion soums hidden within a residential home in Tashkent district of Tashkent province.
According to the DXX, a 34-year-old resident of the home was using the property as a distribution hub to supply pharmacies throughout the capital.
Authorities seized 119 different types of medications, totaling 76,318 units packed in 3,356 boxes. The haul included high-demand brands such as:
- Frotu: A cytotoxic medication often used in oncology treatments.
- Budenofalk: A corticosteroid used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's and ulcerative colitis.
- Gaviscon: A common treatment for heartburn and acid reflux.
- Baraclude: An antiviral medication prescribed for chronic hepatitis B.
Samples of the seized drugs have been sent to the Ministry of Health's Center for Pharmaceutical Product Safety for laboratory analysis to determine their quality and authenticity, with a criminal investigation currently underway.
