A high-level Uzbek delegation—comprising officials from the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Interior, and the Migration Agency—recently conducted a series of meetings with key U.S. departments. These diplomatic efforts were facilitated by the Uzbek Embassy in Washington and the Consulate General in New York.
According to the Foreign Ministry, discussions at the U.S. Department of Labor highlighted the steady trajectory of bilateral relations and the high level of mutual trust currently shared between the two nations. American officials offered high praise for Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms in eliminating forced and child labor. They also commended the effective cooperation in migration management, specifically noting the successful, organized repatriation of Uzbek citizens from the United States.
A focal point of the negotiations was the expansion of labor migration opportunities. Specifically, both sides explored Uzbekistan’s potential participation in the H-2A visa program, which would allow Uzbek citizens to take part in seasonal agricultural work in the U.S.
The delegation’s visit to the U.S. State Department further underscored the positive momentum in political dialogue. U.S. officials emphasized Uzbekistan’s strategic importance as a regional partner. Both parties reached an agreement to pursue joint initiatives across political, economic, and cultural spheres, while committing to a continuous exchange of information on consular and legal matters.
To round out the mission, the delegation met with officials from the National Council of Agricultural Employers (NCAE) at the Uzbek Embassy in Washington to discuss practical implementation steps for labor cooperation.
