A new two-level interchange is planned for the intersection of Mustaqillik Avenue, Mirzo Ulugbek Street, and Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street (near the "Buyuk Ipak Yuli" metro station). The project was unveiled during a press conference held by the Tashkent Traffic Management Center on Saturday.

Bakhrom Shakirov, head of "Tashkent Invest," emphasized that these changes are designed with the convenience of residents and visitors in mind. Beyond merely streamlining traffic flow, the project prioritizes pedestrian safety. City officials have identified this intersection as a major "bottleneck," a site of chronic congestion that frequently requires manual traffic control by officers.

Developers are optimistic that the project will be a game-changer. According to their projections, travel time for the 8-kilometer stretch from the Ts1 massif to the Lesser Ring Road (Temur Malik St.) will drop by 25%—from 45 minutes down to 32 during peak hours. Daily throughput is expected to rise by 21%, increasing from 98,800 to 120,000 vehicles.

Specialists estimate that average traffic speeds will climb by 25%, reaching 26 km/h. Crucially, bus speeds are expected to hit 23 km/h, ensuring significantly more reliable schedules. The Tashkent Khokimiyat (City Hall) noted that by leveraging modern technologies, the active construction phase at this hub will be condensed into just 50–60 days.

The project was developed in collaboration with China Construction and local specialized agencies. Company representatives stated that this specific design was chosen as the most optimal solution after extensive traffic flow studies and AI-driven modeling. While the final cost is still being finalized through ongoing expert evaluations, the project is funded by China Construction—the same investor behind the Shota Rustaveli Street reconstruction.

In a move to modernize public transit, a dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane will be launched along Mirzo Ulugbek Street, occupying the former tram line. This will connect to the city's first BRT line, which is being extended via Shakhrisabz and Mustaqillik Streets. The surrounding area will undergo a "facade-to-facade" transformation, including renovated sidewalks, new bike lanes, tree planting, and the installation of benches. Additionally, a tunnel will be constructed at the intersection of Mirzo Ulugbek and Durmon Yuli, featuring surface-level bus stops for easy access.
