Today, the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, the presidential press service said.

Reportedly, the parties reviewed the ways to expand cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN Tourism.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that over the past eight years, the number of tourists visiting Uzbekistan has grown sixfold, reaching nearly 12 million. Plans are in place to bring this number to 20 million by 2030 and to raise tourism's share to the GDP to 7%.

Both parties noted the growing momentum of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN Tourism, highlighting the 2023 General Assembly held in Samarkand, the establishment of the International Academy of Tourism, and the upcoming opening of a thematic office titled "Tourism on the Silk Road."

The parties also stressed that, at Uzbekistan's initiative, the UN General Assembly had adopted a resolution declaring 2027 the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism.

Both parties reaffirmed their readiness to develop the partnership, including:

  • Improving the international legal framework for tourism.
  • Implementing joint projects.
  • Expanding expert and technical cooperation.
  • Training highly qualified personnel for the tourism industry.
