The Competition Committee has announced a procedure for paying financial compensation to passengers for train delays. Reportedly, recent feedback from social media and direct complaints have highlighted growing dissatisfaction for disruptions in domestic passenger train services. In 2025 alone, the committee received 51 formal complaints regarding this problem.
A probe into current legal frameworks revealed that there was previously no procedure for paying financial compensation to passengers when a train is delayed due to the carrier's fault.
The proposed regulations for local and high-speed trains (excluding existing specific rules) suggest the following compensation rates based on ticket fares:
- 15–30 minute delay: 15% refund of the ticket fare.
- 31–60 minute delay: 25% refund of the ticket fare.
- 61–120 minute delay: 50% refund of the ticket fare.
- Over 121 minutes delay: 100% refund of the ticket fare.
The above compensation scheme was previously only valid for delays involving Afrosiyob high-speed trains. This news follows a recent price hike for several domestic train routes by Uzbekistan Railways.
