The Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Tashkent celebrated the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh on 26 March 2026 with due color and festivity. The day’s program began with ceremonial hoisting of the national flag at the Embassy premises, which was followed by a discussion on the historical significance and meaning of the occasion. Special messages issued by the leadership of the country were read out during the event.
In the evening of the day (26 March 2026) the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan H.E. Dr. Mohammad Monirul Islam hosted a reception at Hotel Hyatt Regency in Tashkent, marking the 55th anniversary of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh H.E.Adkham Ilkhamovich Ikramov, Minister of Sports graced the occasion as the chief guest. The reception was attended by a significant number of high profile guests, including dignitaries from the President's Office, government, academic, business, cultural and media circles of Uzbekistan as well as members of diplomatic corps and Bangladeshi expatriates.
In his remarks, Ambassador Dr. Islam paid his rich tributes to the bravest sons of the nation who courageously fought for the freedom of their country, recalling their unprecedented contributions and sacrifices towards the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign country on the world map in 1971. He expressed deep gratitude to foreign friends including the people of Uzbekistan for their support during the most critical time in the history of Bangladesh.

Highlighting the context of the formation of the new government of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister H.E. Tarique Rahman, Dr. Islam reiterated the commitment and vision of the government towards building a discrimination free, self-reliant, secured and dignified Bangladesh. He elaborated the growing friendship between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, both on bilateral and multilateral fronts, identifying the potential areas of collaboration for mutual benefits. He sought the support of Uzbekistan in particular and all other members of the United Nations in general in favor of Bangladesh candidate H.E Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh for the presidency of the 81st session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), election of which to be held in June this year. He further underlined Bangladesh’s steadfast policy of advocating peace and stability across the globe, while articulating geopolitical realities the world is facing today. During the reception, an enthralling cultural performance was staged, displaying cultural beauty and diversity of Bangladesh, which was deeply applauded by the participating audience.

The celebration ended with a cake cutting ceremony, marking the glorious Independence and National Day of Bangladesh as well as growing friendship between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.
