The Consulate General of Uzbekistan has opened in Seattle, Washington. Akhror Burkhanov, who had previously served as the spokesman to the Foreign Ministry, has been appointed the first consul general.

The opening of consulates general in Philadelphia, Chicago, Orlando, and Seattle, where large Uzbek communities are concentrated, was envisaged by the presidential decree establishing the U.S.-Uzbek Business and Investment Council last November.

One of the main objectives of the new consulates general are advancing and successful deployment of a model for effective interaction with the Uzbek communities living in all U.S. states. The consulates will be aiming to enhance investment and trade ties and expand business cooperation, to achieve goals and projects of the U.S.-Uzbek Business and Investment Council, and facilitate the activities of the Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington—the Envoy of the Presidential Administration in the United States, Komil Allamjonov.

Previously, Uzbekistan had two diplomatic missions in the United States: an embassy in Washington, D.C., and a consulate general in New York.
