In Tashkent, a section of the retaining wall of an overpass collapsed at the intersection of Temur Malik and Buyuk Ipak Yuli streets.
The overpass was reopened after a complete reconstruction, including the widening of Temur Malik Street, in August 2024. The president Mirziyoyev visited the inauguration ceremony.
It was then officially reported that the overpass was the first to be constructed from prefabricated iron structures, with service life of over 100 years promised.
The Tashkent city mayor’s office said that no one was injured. Emergency services, technical specialists, and officials of responsible organizations have been dispatched to the scene. The area around the emergency has been cordoned off, and part of Temur Malik Street is closed to traffic.
The mayors of Tashkent and the Mirzo-Ulugbek district, as well as the heads of relevant services, arrived at the scene.
A comprehensive technical inspection is underway. Among the factors being preliminarily considered for the incident is "the impact of recent heavy precipitation, including possible soil waterlogging and increased loads on the structure."
Meanwhile, authorities intend to inspect "all related circumstances, including design solutions, the quality of construction and installation work, the condition of the drainage system, construction supervision, and the facility acceptance procedure."
"Based on the technical check, decisions will be made regarding restoration work, and if violations or improper performance are identified, those responsible will be held accountable in accordance with established procedures," the office stated.
