Uzbekneftegaz and Chinese XIBU signed 30 wells drilling contract in Uzbekistan in 2026-2027, the Uzbekneftegaz’s press service said.
The deal marks the phase I of a long-term partnership. Previously, the Chinese company, part of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), was invited to drill a total of 105 wells in Uzbekistan in 2026-2029.
The contract was signed following a business travel by Uzbekneftegaz Chairman Abdugani Sanginov to China, where negotiations were held with major oil and gas companies, the statement said.
The project includes the delivery of 10 450-ton drilling rigs to Uzbekistan.
According to the company, the new wells will be drilled in promising areas identified through seismic surveys. Their depth can exceed 5,500-6,000 meters.
Furthermore, the wells already drilled experience challenging geological conditions—pressures up to 1,000 atmospheres and temperatures up to 200°C.
Uzbekneftegaz noted that the project aims to expand geological exploration, increase gas reserves, and enhance the country's energy security.
XIBU Drilling Engineering Company has previously been involved in Uzbekistan projects. Specifically, it erected 11 gas wells in Karakul investment block in Bukhara province. The company also participated in the development of an oil field in the Andijan province.
Eriell, a company owned by businessman Bakhtiyor Fazylov, previously participated in drilling operations for Uzbekneftegaz projects. Much of the work was part of the Steps to Increase Hydrocarbon Production Program for 2017-2021.
