President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed condolences to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The letter was published by the Iranian Embassy in Tashkent on March 2.
"The sad news of the passing of Iran's Supreme Spiritual Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei and his family members deeply saddened our hearts. During his many years of fruitful work, he made a significant contribution to strengthening Iranian statehood, ensuring the stability of society, and preserving national values," the letter reportedly reads.
"The bright memory of him, who made a tremendous contribution to the development of comprehensive cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran, a mutually beneficial and long-term partnership, will forever remain in our hearts".
"In these sorrowful and difficult days, we express our sincere condolences to you and the friendly people of Iran," the message continues.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed by US and Israeli airstrikes on February 28. He was 86 years old. He had served as the country's Supreme Leader since 1989. From 1981 to 1989, he served as Iran's President.
