We have found the way to tackle the accident at the M-25 (25 Years of Independence) gas field in Baysun district of Surkhandarya province, announced Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a government meeting today.

The gas has been bursting at the M-25 field since September 2024. According to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a "scientific solution" has been found to the problem in collaboration with international partners.

"We will both tackle the accident and launch a big project that will give a powerful boost to the economy of Surkhandarya," Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored.

Recently, the Chairman of Uzbekneftegaz Abdugani Sanginov visited the M-25 field.

He held a meeting with officials and inspected the technical condition of the facility, safety measures, and the progress of mitigation efforts.

According to the company, negotiations are underway with foreign companies to address the man-made disaster. Specifically, during a business travel to China, the matter was discussed with the leadership of CNPC, one of the world's largest oil and gas companies.

Experts from the American company Schlumberger are also expected to be involved. With their participation, it is planned to develop phased solutions to stabilize the situation and finally resolve the accident.

On September 1, 2024, during drilling operations at well No. 604 at the field, an accident caused a gas leak containing high levels of hydrogen sulfide, killing four people. Local residents were evacuated.

In March 2025, a gas leak occurred at another well, No. 202. To prevent further releases, the gas at the field was set on fire.

Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov describing the complexity of the field, called it an accident. An advisor to the CEO of Eriell attributed the accident to abnormally high reservoir pressure and the effects of hydrogen sulfide on equipment.
