The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, convened a high-level roundtable today to mark International Clean Energy Day, focusing on market-based approaches to scaling up renewable energy and international best practices for supporting the energy transition.
The event brought together government representatives, international partners, development institutions, and experts to discuss financial risk mitigation mechanisms for renewable energy, with particular attention to Japan’s transition from Feed-in Tariff (FiT) schemes to Feed-in Premium (FiP) systems and competitive auctions, and the relevance of this experience for Uzbekistan.
The roundtable was organized within the framework of the Joint Project of the Ministry of economy and finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP “Promoting innovative decarbonization solutions” financed by the Government of Japan.
Opening the event, representatives of the Government of Uzbekistan, the Government of Japan, and UNDP highlighted the importance of policy reform, international cooperation, and private sector engagement in accelerating the country’s clean energy transition. The programme featured a policy brief presentation on Japan’s renewable energy support mechanisms, highlighting key success factors, implementation challenges, and lessons learned. Participants also discussed Uzbekistan’s evolving renewable energy policy framework, the role of competitive procurement, and the need to align energy reforms with climate commitments and long-term sustainable development objectives.
The event concluded with an award ceremony for winners of the National Clean Energy Competition “Let’s help our planet breath” among school students, held in celebration of International Clean Energy Day, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement and public awareness in advancing climate action.
