In Khatyrchi district of Navoiy province, a father stuffed a sock into his crying five-month-old baby's mouth. The baby later died, Zamon program on Sevimli TV channel reported.
Reportedly, the child turned blue from suffocation. The mother rushed him to the hospital. Despite doctors' efforts, he died four days later.
Doctor Ural Rakhmatullaev said the child was admitted to the hospital around midnight on January 10. He was clinically dead—there was no heartbeat or breathing. Doctors performed CPR, after which the baby's heart began beating again. After four days in intensive care, biological death was declared on January 14 around 10:00 PM.
Neighborhood officials reported that this was the man's second family (in which he had two sons). They said he had also abused children in his own family (a daughter and a son).
A criminal case has been opened against the suspect under Intentional grievous bodily harm resulting in death charge, and he has been taken into custody, with the man facing eight to ten years in prison.
