The British Council in Uzbekistan continues contributing to the national reform on modernization of pre-service teacher training (PRESETT) and provides support to the network of practicing English leachers across the country. In close partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations and the Ministry of Pre-school and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan the British Council organized National Forum of all universities training future teachers in Uzbekistan and launched the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Hub in Tashkent.
The activities respond to the goals and objectives set in the Presidential Decree #PF-73 dated 28 April 2025 on further improving the teacher training system, as well as in the Presidential Resolution #PQ-231 dated 21 June 2024 on improving the system of continuing professional development of preschool and schoolteachers.
On 6-7 January 2026, in collaboration with both Ministries of education, the British Council invited representatives of over 50 state and private universities preparing future English teachers to a National Forum to discuss key priorities and challenges in the process of modernizing PRESETT.
The Forum also offered training sessions for its participants focusing on reflective practices and inclusion and strengthening PRESETT community of practice. The participants received a set of resources and tools on assessment and syllabus alignment – which they will take back to their institutions and share with their peers.
On 8 January 2026, the British Council and the National Institute of Pedagogical Excellence named after A. Avloniy launched a national platform supporting continuing professional development and education reform in Uzbekistan – the CPD Hub. The Hub located in the premises of the Institute, aims to serve as an accessible, well-resourced space for both face-to-face and online professional learning activities.
“Large scale education reform is taking place in Uzbekistan and teacher education is one of the key priorities. We work closely with Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations and the Ministry of Pre-school and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan to contribute to the national reform agenda. Today’s Forum brings together more than 220 teacher educators from all over Uzbekistan to discuss major steps to reform preservice teacher training curriculum and embed reflective practice and inclusion in current programmes.

We will specifically focus on the role of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning of English and explore key new competencies future teachers need to develop. The meeting aims to strengthen the network of PRESETT professionals in Uzbekistan and inspire them to share experience and expertise.
We are delighted to know that more and more future teachers of English will get inspired to have the ownership of their professional development from the first day of their journey and encourage them to collaborate with their peers. To offer immediate support to teachers in secondary schools we are launching the CPD Hub in Tashkent, Ferghana, Jizzakh and Namangan cities in close partnership with the A.Avlonij Institute.”– highlighted Ms. Jamilya Gulyamova, Deputy Director, British Council Uzbekistan.

The Forum is funded by the UK International Development from the UK Government. The event is a part of the British Council Accelerating English Language Learning in Central Asia (AELLCA) programme which is designed to respond to national English reform agendas, focusing on English teacher education and developing more inclusive education systems across the Central Asian region. Key academic partner of the programme is the Norwich Institute for Language Education, UK.
