First Deputy Chairman of the Uzbek Senate and Uzbekistan’s Governor at the EBRD Sodiq Safoev met with the EBRD First Vice President Philip Bennett.
The counterparts noted EBRD’s support to Uzbekistan’s SMEs, consultations on improving the investment climate, development of various sectors of the economy, increasing its export potential, etc.
Sodiq Safoev expressed gratitude to the EBRD Board of Directors for recent approval of loans to the Uzbek SMEs.
On October 18 and November 1, the Board of Directors approved over $ 120 million in loans to Uzbekistan companies before even adopting the Country Strategy, which is an unprecedented case.
Philip Bennett praised the ongoing reforms undertaken under the leadership of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and thanked the Uzbek side for support in promoting cooperation with the EBRD.
The counterparts also exchanged views on the priority areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EBRD and the work progress on the EBRD’s draft Medium Term Country Strategy for Uzbekistan, and touched upon the issues of cooperation aimed at developing the Uzbekistan’s financial markets and issuance of government bonds.
