On 13 October , the Rule of Law Partnership in Uzbekistan presented 15 inter-district civil courts of the Fergana Valley with modern computer equipment that will help connect the courts to the E-SUD national electronic case management system.

Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Chairperson of the Collegium on civil cases Kholmumin Yodgorov, United States Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Pamela Spratlen, and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Uzbekistan, Farid Garakhanov were at an event to hand over computer equipment that will facilitate the use of an electronic case management system in 15 inter-district civil courts in the Fergana Valley.

The equipment was provided through the ‘Rule of Law Partnership in Uzbekistan’ a project supported by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The new equipment, valued at 60,000 USD, will help connect the courts to E-SUD, an innovative electronic document management system that increases the speed of document processing and case consideration and gives citizens better access to the courts.

When the pilot program was launched in 2013, only one court in Uzbekistan had set up the E-SUD system. Today 950 specialists across the country have been trained in the use of the system and all 75 civil courts are using it. Since the launch, service efficiency has increased by approximately 50% with no documentation loss.

During the event, guest toured the court facility and saw first-hand how E-SUD works. At the end of the event, practical manuals developed by the project on ‘Procedure for Appealing to a Civil Court’, ‘Disputes arising out of labor relations’, ‘Judicial practice in disputes arising from marital-family relations’, and ‘Practical guide to final court decision’ were released.
