President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with a presentation on steps to develop the railway industry Tuesday. Reportedly, in 2024, Uzbekistan Railways, which had previously ended 3 finacial years in a row with losses, recorded a net profit of 47 billion soums. The company revenues after using freight cars following the creation of a subsidiary - Temiryoʻlkargo has doubled.

Meanwhile, as the president underscored, the potential of the railway sector had not yet been fully tapped. the industry's revenues may double with an increase in transit freight traffic by 40% in the coming years.

In particular, freight trains have already been launched on the China-Turkey route, with the number of travels growing, and the delivery of new trains being received. The president added that it was necessary to gradually expand the railway infrastructure.

Today, 70% of external cargo passes through the Chukursoy station in Tashkent, which creates bottlenecks, delays and queues. In this regard, he ordered to move freight stations outside the capital and build large stations in the Yangiyul district and near the New Tashkent.

It is also planned to build a Ozodlik - Gulistan bypass line, which will double the volume of transportation without calling at the capital.

Among the presented new projects was the Samarkand - Urgut railway line project with a length of 54 km, of which 7 km have already been erected. The project provides for the construction of two railway stations and two freight stations in the Urgut economic zone.

Plans to purchase new electric trains and improve the quality of service were also discussed at the meeting.

Back in September 2023, the president underscored that it was necessary to study the possibility of reloocating the railway freight stations outside the cities. This will reduce the movement of freight transport in cities and help raise more investment to the provinces.
