The faction of the People's Democratic Party in declared itself a parliamentary opposition the Legislative Chamber. According to the law, this is possible if the party does not agree with the course and program of the government or with its individual directions.

Earlier, the rightist UzLiDep and the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party merged to form the Progressive Bloc.

"While we do not object to the creation of this bloc, we cannot align with its goals and priorities, as well as with some directions that the government is taking," said NDPU leader Ulugbek Inoyatov at a meeting in the Legislative Chamber today.

Posing itself as a leftist political force, the People's Democratic Party has designated its priority goal as building a democratic social state based on the principles of justice, equality and solidarity.

Ulugbek Inoyatov also voiced a number of problems, including:

  • distancing of the state from the economy and government oversight over strategically important companies, as well as the absence of a legislative ban on their privatization;
  • the need to transition to a pension system managed through competitive market mechanisms;
  • the absence of a clear long-term strategy to support socially vulnerable populations in matters of utility payments (gas, electricity, etc.);
  • the absence of a system of guarantees for protection of individuals’ funds drawn for the construction of housing on the basis of shared participation;
  • the absence of a progressive taxation depending, and the absence of a luxury tax;
  • weak government oversight in the pharmaceutical sector, the absence of established maximum prices for domestic and imported drugs, as well as the absence of a ban on advertising of drugs.

“The faction of the People’s Democratic Party, in pursuance of the goal of creating a social state based on the principles of social protection, equality and solidarity, puts the interests of our voters at the forefront and will continue to mobilize efforts to ensure stable socio-economic development of the country and the well-being of our people,” noted Ulugbek Inoyatov.
