A 21-year-old resident of the Syrdarya province left a seven-month-old toddler on one of the streets of Akdarya district of the Samarkand province and fled.
Video footages that surfaced on social networks show a woman and a girl carrying the child on a street, and a little later they walk without him. Reportedly, there was a letter with the child.
The children's ombudsperson's office reported that they had taken the situation under supervision, the names of the mother and child are known. The incident is currently being investigated by the police and the prosecutor's office. The child was transferred to a baby home, where he is receiving the necessary care.
"Abuse of parental responsibilities and lack of care for one's own child is a form of violence against a child. Such actions committed by individuals against their children are grounds for liability under the law. Every child is protected by laws and the state," the children's ombudsperson's office said.
