During his trip to the Khorezm province, the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the railway infrastructure, the presidential press service said today.

Reportedly, today the 465-kilometer Bukhara-Urgench-Khiva railway has been electrified, protective barriers have been installed, and necessary facilities have been built. 6 high-speed electric trains have been purchased from the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem for this route, which will be put into service on the Tashkent-Khiva route next year under the Jaloliddin Manguberdi name.

With over 3 million-passenger annual capacity, the Tashkent to Khiva travel will take 7 hours and 40 minutes instead of the current 14 hours.

In addition, the capacity of freight trains will reach almost 6 million tons. Currently, this figure is 1 million tons.

It is noted that the president also inspected new wagons manufactured in Uzbekistan. In the next two years, the number of passenger cars will be increased to 70, and the old ones will be phased out. As a result, it will be possible to transport more than one million additional passengers per year.
